Bacchus
- Roman God of Wine, Intoxication, and Ecstatic Celebration. Similar in
many respects to Dionysios.
Badhbh - "Raven" One aspect of the triple-aspected Goddess of
War. She would fly over warriors in battle and give out terrible screams,
both to frighten them and incite them to even braver and mightier deeds.
In this role she is known as Badhbh Catha, the "Battle Raven."
She is associated with Sexual Desire and Fulfillment, as are all deities of War
and Battles, and often appears in the guise of beautiful young woman. She
can also take the form of a crow or a hideous old hag. She is clearly a
deity who appealed to the warrior nature of the Irish Celts.
Bala - Hindu Mother Goddess.
Balanke - "Jaguar-Sun" Mayan God. This aspect of the Sun is the
essence of strength (warrior strength). He is considered a Great Beast.
All His Priests and Priestesses are his harlots.
Balarama - Hindu God of Agriculture and Physical Strength. Symbolized by
the club and plow.
Balder (Aesir) - Norse God, son of Odin and Frigga, husband of Nanna, and father
of Forseti. Known as the Shining God or the Bleeding God. Sacred
wells sprang up from the hoof marks of his horse. He represents light,
advice, reconciliation, beauty, gentleness, reincarnation, wisdom, harmony, and
happiness. Balder will return from Helheim after Ragnarok and will rule as
one of the new Gods. His name means "the Bright One."
Bali - Hindu God of the Sky, but Vishnu took his power from him casting him to
the Underworld, where he was to rule.
Bast - The Cat or Lion-Headed Goddess of Sunlight and Home, who with her sister
Sekhmet, represent the heat of the Sun. Bast is the Living Power and the
gentle heat of sunlight's. Her name means "Devouring Lady."
Beda - "Disaster" Slavic Goddess or Misfortune and Disaster.
Belatu-Cadros (Belatucadros) - The Welsh-Celtic God of War and of the
destruction of one's enemies. His name means "Fair Shining One."
The Romans equated him with their God Mars.
Belenus - Gaul (Celtic) God of Light, "The Shining One,"
associated with Apollo, and married to Belisama. Belenus was the most widely
worshipped Celtic God. Belenus is in charge of the welfare of sheep and
cattle. Corresponds with Irish God, Bile.
Belisama - Gaul (Celtic) Goddess of Light and Fire, Forging and Craft. She
is the wife of Belenus (Beli) and the Goddess of the Mersey River.
Corresponds to classical Minerva.
Bellona - Roman Goddess of War, attended to by violent and frenzied rites.
Belobog - "The White God" West Slavic God of Happiness and Luck.
Ben Ich - "He of the Starry Sky" This Mayan God is a great
infinite Jaguar. (His spots are said to be the stars and planets).
Benten - Japanese-Buddhist River Goddess, derived from the Hindu Goddess
Saraswati. Goddess of music, eloquence, fortune and wealth.
Bertha - Norse Spinning Goddess, like the Roman Fates, also Goddess of Winter
and Witchcraft. She rides abroad in Midwinter on the Wild Hunt, the Crone.
Also known as Holda.
Bes - The Egyptian Dwarf-God of Music, Dancing, and Warfare.
Bestalannitsa - "Luckless" Slavic Goddess of Misfortune.
Bharat Mata - Modern Hindu Mother Goddess.
Bhima - Hindu Warrior God.
Bhumidevi - Hindu Fertility Goddess.
Bhumiya - Hindu Fertility God.
Bhutama - Hindu Demon Goddess.
Blodeuwedd (Blodwen) - Irish-Celtic flower maiden, the aspect of the Goddess
that represents the Maiden. Her name means "Flower Face."
Gwydion transformed her into an owl.
Boann - Irish-Celtic Goddess of bounty and feritlity, whose totem is the sacred
white cow. She was the wife of Nechtan, a water deity. The father of
her son Angus was Dagda.
Bolon Tzcab - The Maya Ruling-Lineage Deity. He kept the line of Itzam Na
pure and made sure the nobility of the Maya was strong.
Bor - Norse supernatural man, son of Buri, a giant who was created when the cow,
Audhumbla, licked at a stone. He is married to the giantess Betsla and is
the father of Odin, Vili, and Ve. Bor means "the son."
Also spelled Borr.
Brahm - Hindu entity; the union of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Brahma - Hindu God, one of the members of the Hindu Trinity. Symbolizes
the aspect of the supreme reality that brings forth creation. He is
regarded as the creator of the universe.
Brahmini - A Hindu Mother Goddess.
Bran - "Raven" Welsh hero God and perhaps also the God of poetry
and the Underworld.
Branwen - Welsh-Celtic Goddess of love and beauty, also worshipped in Manx and
Wales. She corresponds to with Aphrodite and Venus. A Goddess of
love, the "Venus of the Northern Seas," the daughter of Llyr and
probably the same as Cordelia.
Bres - The Irish-Celtic God of fertility and agriculture. He is the son of
Elatha, a prince of the Fomorians, and the Goddess Eriu.
Brigid - Gaelic fire and fertility Goddess, Goddesss of home and all feminine
arts and crafts; she was supposed to have invented agriculture, pottery and
spinning. She is also the Goddess of divination, poetry, love, healing,
and Occult knowledge. Like Vesta she had a perpetual fire in her honor;
Candlemas is celebrated in her honor.
Brigit (Bridget, Brigindo) - Brigit is the Irish-Celtic Goddess of healing,
communication and fertility, patroness of smiths, poets and doctors, symbolized
by a white swan. Her festival is that of the Imbolc, observed on February
1st. Brigit shares her attributes with the ancient Greek triple Goddess
Hecate. The Pre-Christian Brigantes, from where her name derives, honored
her as identical to Juno, Queen of Heaven. So well loved is Brigit, that
she was made into a Christian saint when the Celts turned to Christianity.
Brihaspati - Hindu Astral God, considered helper in creation, the Lord of
prayer, and Priest of Gods. Associated with fire and is a mediator of the
Gods.
Buddhi - Hindu Minor Goddess of knowledge and insight.
Buddha - A Hindu astral God associated with the planet Mercury.
Buluc Chabtan - The Mayan God of Human Sacrifice and War.
Buto - "She who is Green" The Egyptian cobra-Goddess of Lower
Egypt.
