- Hindu Goddess of Fortune
Acan - Mayan God of wine. Actually he rules over intoxicating drinks such
as beer, wine, Kola, etc. He is known for his loud "bellowing"
and his foolish behavior.
Aclis - Twin Norse Gods worshipped by the Teutons, said to be the sons of the
Sky God
Aditi - "The Unfettered" Hindu mother Goddess. She was
self-formed and is the mother of the Sun and Moon Gods. She is the
unlimited space of sky beyond the far East, the brilliant light from which Gods
sprang. She clears obstacles, protects, and solves problems.
Aerten (Aerfon or Aeron) - A Goddess of Fate who presided over the outcome of
war between several Celtic clans. She had a shrine at Glyndyfrdwy on the
banks of the River Dee, where legend says that three human sacrifices had to be
made every three years to ensure success in future battles. She is often
equated with the Three Fates of Greco-Roman mythology.
Aesir - A plural word meaning "pillar" or "supports;" and is
the collective name of the Old Norse Gods of the family of which Odin was the
patriarch.
Aglaia - One of the Greek Goddess, the Graces, who assure peace and happiness.
Aglia means "splendor." Correspond to the Roman Goddess, the
Charities.
Agni - Hindu Fire God. He is part of all things and the essence of life.
Ah Ahaah Cab - "Awakener" A Mayan God. He is associated with the
morning star.
Ah Kin - Mayan God of Knowledge and Power, also the Sun God.
Ah Kin Xoc - Ah Kin means "Priest." Xoc means "to count or
read." Mayan God. He is the great singer, musician, and poet.
He won the respect of the Sun God when he took the guise of a humming bird and
wooed the Moon Goddess. Husband of the Plumeria, the sacred flower of
Itzam Na. This flower rules Divine Sexuality, its colors are red and
white. This flower contained the secret of Truth and Immortality.
Ah Hadz'en Caan Chacs - "Lash" the Mayan Sky God.
Aker - "The Bender" Egyptian guardian of the rising and setting
sun.
Ahi - Hindu serpent God who was slain by Indra with a thunderbolt.
Aine - Irish-Celtic Goddess of Love and Fertility, later known as an Irish Fairy
Queen.
Airmid - Irish-Celtic Healing Goddess of the Tuatha de Danann, Goddess of
medicinal plants and keeper of the spring that the dead come back to life.
Ala - Nigerian Goddess of Fertility/Mortality, Death and Earth. She is the
daughter of the High God and considered to be the mother of all things.
She gives birth in the beginning and welcomes the dead back to her womb.
Her temples are situated in the center of the villages, where she has a statue
surrounded by other Gods and animals. Amounst the Ibo people, she is one
of the most popular divinities.
Alaisiagae - Norse War Goddess. See Valkyries.
Alecto - One of the Greed Goddesses, the Erinyes. The Romans called them
Furies.
Amaethon - The Welsh God of Agriculture.
Amon - "The Hidden One" Egyptian God and the King of the Theban
Gods and "That which is hidden."
Ammut - "Dead-Sallower" The Egyptian monster who ate the heart
of those who did not deserve eternal life.
An - Sumerian God of the Heavens, leading Sumerian deity from Forth Millennium
B.C.E. until the city of Erech lost its power (c. 2500 B.C.E.).
Anala - One of several Hindu attendant Gods. Associated with the element
Fire.
Anapura - Hindu Goddess of food.
Ansa - Minor Hindu Sun God.
Anquet - "Embracing Lady" The Egyptian Water Goddess of Elephantine.
Anteros - Italian God of Passion and Sexual Unions.
Anu - Gaelic goddess, another aspect of the Mother Goddess, Mother of Men, there
are two famous hills in Ireland which are known as the Paps of Anu.
Anubis - "The Royal Child" The Egyptian jackal-God of
mummification and embalming.
Apam Napat - Hindu God of Fresh Water.
Apep - The Egyptian serpent who daily tried to destroy the sun.
Aphrodite - Greek goddess of sexual love, affection and beauty. Daughter
of Zeus and Dione. Aphrodite had the power to beguile even wise Gods and
often placed temptation in the path of Zeus. Corresponds to the Roman
Goddess Venus, associated with geese and swans.
Apollo - Greek God of the sun and patron of truth, archery, music, medicine, and
prophecy. Son of Zeus and Leto, twin brother of Artemis. Corresponds
with the Roman God Phoebus.
Aranyani - Hindu Woodland Goddess.
Ardra - Hindu Goddess of Misfortune.
Ares - Greek God of war. Son of Zeus and Hera, both who despised him.
Ares was held in awe by the Greeks, never adored. He was liked by Hades
for the wars he started, they increased the population of the Underworld.
Corresponds to the Roman God Mars.
Arianrhod - Welsh-Celtic Earth Goddess. She is the beautiful daughter of
Don, King of Heaven, and sister of Gwydion. Also known as the Star
Goddess.
Artemis - "Virgin Huntress" Greek Goddess of the hunt and of the
Moon, as well as discernment. Invoked by women in travail (childbirth) who
beg her to be merciful and to visit them with her arrow, and women offer her a
lock of hair after delivery. Twin sister to Apollo. She is also one
of the only three who are immune to the spells of Aphrodite, the other two are
Athena and Hestia. Corresponds to the Roman Goddess Diana.
Arundhati - Hindu Astral Goddess.
Asa-Thor - Thor, the Norse thunder God's full name.
Aslesa - Goddess of misfortune.
Astamatara - A group of Hindu Mother Goddesses.
Astrea - Italian Goddess of Justice.
Asvayujau - The Epic and Puranic Hindu Goddess of fortune.
Asvins: Nasatya and Dasra - Hindu twin brothers who represent the morning
and evening star.
Aten - The Egyptian disk of the sun.
Athena - Greek Goddess of war, wisdom, and the liberal arts. Daughter of
Zeus and Metis, whom Zeus swallowed when she became prenant. Athena was
born, fully grown and armed, from Zeus' forehead. She is both a warrior
Goddess and Goddess of the hearth. She is also one of only three who are
immune to the spells of Aphrodite, the other two are Hestia and Artemis.
Associated with owls, also known as Athena. Corresponds to the Roman
Goddess Minerva.
Atropos - One of the Greek Goddesses of Necessity, the Fates. The Romans
called them the Morae.
Atum - "The Complete One" The Egyptian God of the setting sun
and a form of Re.
Aurora - Roman Goddess of the dawn, and Divine Herald of the day, and by
extension, new beginnings of any sort. Similar in many respects to the
Hellenic Eos.
Ayyappan - Hindu God of Growth.
